1856

The Crown Jewel of Château Borgeat de Lagrange

Born from our iconic parcel, Le Clos Borgeat, this wine elevates a unique clay-limestone terroir, enriched by its proximity to the Gironde estuary. Sheltered by natural hedges and caressed by coastal winds, it reveals a rare complexity: intense blackcurrant, black pepper, and a subtle finish of rosemary.

"Drinking the 1856 is like being transported back to our magical weekend at the château. We opened a bottle to celebrate our anniversary, and it brought back all the memories: the taste of the terroir, the view of the chateau. It’s more than wine; it’s a bottled piece of history. Thank you, Estelle and Tristan, for sharing your legacy!"

"A friend wouldn’t stop raving about this 'hidden gem from Blaye with a magnificient chateau.' I finally ordered a bottle and now I’m the one doing the raving! The balance of fruit and structure is incredible. You can tell it’s crafted with passion."

Inspired by the Château, crafted by nature

AOC BLAYE CÔTES DE BORDEAUX

70% MERLOT 30% CABERNET SAUVIGNON

In the glass, our "1856" has a beautiful deep red color. The aroma is complex and inviting, with scents of ripe blackberries, cedar, and a hint of black pepper.

On the palate, the wine is smooth and well-balanced. You'll taste delicious layers of blackcurrant, plum, and dark cherry. These fruit flavors are complemented by subtle notes of spice and tobacco, which come from its aging in French oak barrels. The finish is long and satisfying, with soft tannins that make it incredibly easy to drink.

“Crafting the 1856 is a blend of passion and patience. We selected grapes from our oldest, rescued vines to create a wine that is both powerful and elegant. The partial aging in French oak barrels adds subtle layers of spice and complexity without ever overpowering the beautiful fruit. My goal was to create a wine that is not only delicious today but that will also continue to evolve and tell its story for years to come in your cellar. It’s a true expression of our home.”

FAQ

What grape varieties are used in this wine?

Our 1856 blend is 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, each chosen for a specific role:

· Merlot (70%): Provides a silky, generous core of dark fruit (think plums, blackberries).
· Cabernet Sauvignon (30%): Adds structure, aging potential, and depth (notes of cedar, dark spice).

Together, they create a wine that’s both powerful and elegantly balanced: great now or with time.

Is this wine suitable for long-term aging?

Absolutely. 1856 is built to age beautifully.

Thanks to its structured Cabernet Sauvignon backbone (30%) and concentrated fruit from our best parcel, Clos Borgeat, this wine will gracefully evolve for 15+ years.

While delicious now (decant it!), time will unlock more complex notes of leather, truffle, and cedar alongside the ripe fruit.

Is this wine produced using environmentally friendly viticulture practices?

We are committed to sustainable farming and eco-conscious winemaking practices.

How should I serve this wine to fully appreciate its aromas?

To fully appreciate the aromas of this wine, we recommend serving it at an ideal temperature of 16-18°C. Don’t hesitate to decant it one hour before tasting in its young age.

Which dish pairs best with this wine?

Perfect for: A special dinner, pairing with roasted meats, or simply enjoying on its own.
