Château Borgeat de Lagrange
The Château Borgeat de la Lagrange is a neogothic castle located in Blaye, surrounded by Bordeaux vineyards and on the edge of the Gironde estuary. A turret bearing the date 1641 and a 17th century dated fountain isolated in the park reminds us of the former presence of an old castle, now disappeared.
It is here that the Marquis de Lagrange, senator and member of the Institute, grand officer of the Legion of Honour, had built in 1856 a delightful Neo-Gothic castle on the plans of the Bordeaux architect Gustave Alaux, disciple of famous Viollet-Le-Duc. The chateau includes a large body of building flanked by an octagonal tower with chewoulis and a small turret. Multiple gargoyles and chimeras decorate the building and give this place a magical feeling. It is connected to the old turret by a chapel decorated with paintings and stained glass of the best taste.
Château Borgeat de Lagrange now reflects Maison Borgeat’s know-how. Through its luxurious suites, it brings visitors from all over the globe to discover the world’s most renowned wines.
The vineyard
The vineyard, as well as its own, was classified as first bourgeois winery and second bourgeois for palus wines, as mentioned by the various editions of the book “Bordeaux and its wines” in the second half of the 19th century.
